What happens when you get a failed drug test with an employer?
Q. Just got the shock of my life on my answering machine. My drug test was "rejected". Does this mean Failed? Im stoned? Im just a family man in my mid 40s and have never used drugs in my life. I dont even drink booze. I havent taken any prescription drugs or even over the counter in 6 months. I cannot believe it. I fly back to my hometown to get a job to start immediatly and I get this. Im taking another one but Ill at the least be unemployed waiting for another 3 weeks. How accurate are these things? Im guilty of too much caffiene in my jumbo travel cup and shouldnt smoke Marlboro's. I support Lowe's efforts for a drug-free workplace, but geez!! Get a new laboratory contract. Im as squeaky clean as they come.

A. There is usually a way to contest it. I was told once when taking a drug test for a potential employment that I would have to pay for a second test if it failed and I wanted to contest it. "Rejected" may mean that there was a false positive or that something was messed up with the handling of your sample. I don't know exactly what the margin of error is on a urine test, but there definitely is one. A retest may be a second urine test but it may also be a blood test. Whatever the reason, there should still be a way for your job to be OK. Good luck!

What kind of drug test is given when applying as a Cathay Pacific flight attendant?
Q. It says on the Cathay Pacific website that one of the requirements is to pass a medical assessment soo, i need to know what kind of drug test they give for the flight attendant position, i need to know if the drug test is urine, blood or hair. If you fly for Cathay or know people who are currently working there, please ask and let me know. Thanks
Asked by reefersativa - Thu Nov 8 21:37:44 2007 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. A medical assessment will include checking your back and neck to see if there are any problems with lifting, standing, walking. (Their flights are long haul so you have to be able to walk and stand for longer times) Drug tests are administered under the Dept. of Transportation requirements. Could be any of the three methods you mention or it could be a combination of two of those mentioned. Extensive background check will be done on you as well to give you clearance to work at the airport and have ramp access.

Do I have to take a drug test to get my private pilots license?
Q. I have been taking flying lessons for the past couple of weeks and am about to get my physical. This is required to fly solo, and I was wondering if I have to pass a drug test at my physical. I don't really do drugs, but I smoke a little doober about once every two weeks or so. Will I pass this drug test and should I be worried?
Asked by alex d - Wed Feb 28 20:46:58 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. During your physical exam you will need to give a urine sample which the doctor will test for diabetes. That's about it. There's no drug test per se that happens. That said, I'd suggest VERY strongly that you do NOT smoke "a little doober" because if you are less than 100% able to fly and the FAA finds out, you will lose your license. Remember the IM SAFE rule for flying? Follow it... it's good!

A. Tell him you aren't again. If he doesn't believe you then you don't have any trust in your relationship. Even if you spent $50 taking a home drug test, it would still prove he doesn't trust you. It could show no drugs but he will think you rigged it and still not believe you. Save the $50.

How can Libertarians be indifferent to drug use while claiming private property rights are biggest concern?
Q. If I understand Libertarians viewpoint on drugs, they would not have government make it illegal to do any drug. However, as their viewpoint was explained to me, private property (land, money, one's own body, belongings, etc.) should be the most protected thing. What recreational drug could a person inject right before driving?
Q. I know it's a weird question. I'm writing a fictional story and have someone injecting something in their car. A. The alcohol will be out of his system, but they also test for by-products of alcohol metabolization. Some urine tests can determine any alcohol use within a five-day period. I don't know what kind of test they are using. Check out this site, it explains a lot of things: Also, don't overdo it on drinking water or taking vitamins - some people have died from "water intoxication" (hyponatremia) or vitamin toxicity!
