Cancer patients being treated with chemotherapy drugs designed to destroy rapidly dividing cells are monitored closely for changes in their RBC and WBC counts. Why? give me some sources Asked by angela r - Wed Nov 26 12:20:46 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Chemotherapy attacks cells as they are dividing. Cells that are growing quickly are the most susceptible to the chemo. Fast growing cells include cancer cells, hair, skin, and mucus membranes, and blood cells. The intent of the chemo is to kill off the cancer cells, but it damages the hair, skin and blood cells as well. Because of this, chemotherapy patients need to be watched for anemia (low red cells) , infection (white cells), and bleeding (platelets). Keeping an eye on the blood counts helps the doctors know when to give red cell or platelet transfusions, prophylactic antibiotics, or drugs to encourage the white cells to grow back more quickly. Hope this helps. MM Answered by SLC Mom - Wed Nov 26 21:01:31 2008 If you had sex with someone on chemotherapy, can the drugs be secreted in semen? Q. Chemo is excreted in ALL body fluids 48 hours after the last chemo is taken, so he should take precautions after receiving chemo. He should have been taught this by the nurses and doctors who administered the chemo. Answered by Autumlief - Thu Sep 4 21:51:32 2008 Could Pesticide and Herbicides be used in place of tradiational chemotherapy?
Q. In the Atlanta area, over a year ago, a guy claiming to be a Oncologist Physician (But wasn't!!) was treating cancer patients with Pesticides and Herbicides, the patients claimed it was working in fighting cancer and at MUCH less the cost (Because he was buying the 'Chemotherapy' drugs from Home Depot). Couldn't it work much the same in killing and retarding cancer cell growth? Asked by NONAME - Mon Jun 14 13:20:15 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. No... if it was killing the cancer cells, it was because they were dying with the person receiving the "treatment." Would you trust your life to a hack treating cancer with products bought at Home Depot? Plus I actually can't think of any pesticides or herbicides that are used safely in humans... nicotine might be the one that comes the closest. Some carbamates (a class of insecticide) were used in chemotherapy a long time ago, until they figured out that it really didn't do anything and probably killed the patient faster... organophosphates are used as nerve agents in chemical warfare, but that doesn't count as "medicine" either. In any case, the answer is no. Answered by atstdriver - Mon Jun 14 15:27:21 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Chemotherapy Drugs"
